Sep/07 Eric Chan Transforms FCG Lobby This summer we were very fortunate to have hybrid new media artist Eric Chan (aka Eepmon) work with us as a student intern. Given Eric's interest in the creative intersection of art and technology, not to mention his multimedia portfolio and unique talent, we were excited to see what he would do with our reception area as his canvas.
Taking inspiration from Fleming Creative Group's motto "The Story Through Design," Eric came up with a dazzling artistic interpretation, spanning 5.08 x 2.28 metres (16.5 x 7.5 feet). Installed as five separate panels along a curved wall in our lobby, the result is a powerful visual statement signifying FCG's core purpose.
On the left is a jumble of intricate patterns and intense colours which, according to Eric, represents the period of brainstorming where creative thought and energy flow together in a continual stream. The stream then funnels to a single point, indicating the process of fine-tuning, and is met by the names of FCG's three divisions (Fleming Design, Design for Real Estate, and Switch Interactive), the caretakers of the ideas. The black background provides a strong contrast, brilliantly showing off the saturated colours as well as representing a counterpoint to the creative process.
Eric's installation definitely makes an impression! It's proving to be a great conversation piece for our visitors and clients, and has received accolades from the online design community (check out Josh Spear's blog). Eric Chan is a rising talent. From websites and apparel to gallery exhibits and print art, Eric's work has already garnered international recognition and acclaim. If you're in the neighbourhood, please feel free to drop in to see a stunning piece by an up-and-coming young artist.
