Do You Feel the Chill?

Business in Vancouver magazine's panel of judges recently (September 4, 2001) selected Fleming Design as the Grand Prize winner for this year's 'Coolest Place to Work' contest.

They cited perks such as Pizza Thursday at the end of every month, Movie Fridays, and the fact that employees actually like what they do at Fleming as reasons behind the selection. But we know that the real clincher was the 'unusual expertise of graphic designer Mike Moraal, who holds the Guinness Book World Record for distance when squirting milk out of his eye!'

The incredible prize was a Seaquest Adventure courtesy of Sewell's Marina in Horseshoe Bay... and what an adventure! A crazy scavenger hunt with a flotilla of motorboats zipping across the inlet from Anvil Island to Bowen, looking for everything from eagle feathers to the prices quoted on real estate signs along the shore. It was a perfect day, sunny and calm; teams were well struck; and enthusiasm ran high. It's rumoured, however, that the winning team never really did make it out of the Marina, opting instead to use their cellphones to collect their answers in a more devious way. When asked about the veracity of the rumour, team members Bruno, Shane and Niko pointed to flattened coifs and salty apparel as proof of the windy journey. Jury's still out.
